Secrets of a Great Page Layout
Layout is the one of the most difficult things to do when it comes to web design or web development.
Page layout determines the outcome of a website, and it is often well thought out.
Web designers or developers especially those are the new to the field or newbies go nuts about it. they always aim for a layout that will stand out. Listed below are some of the “not-so secret” tips to make a great page layout.
1. Remember that functionality is the key of web development. As a designer you should make the content and data looking neat, tidy and very informative. Asses the spaces, it should not be too loose or a bit crowded. Blank spaces are ok as long as it keep to minimum. To maximize space the use of multiple or any columns is highly recommended.
2. All the contents in the center would make the outcome terrible. Putting it all on the center will make the disorganized and out of place. thus, not making a good impression on a new visitor. Besides who would love to read contents which are all centered?! If i were to visit a site like that, the most likely i would do is close the webpage right away.
3. If called for, use deviations. Uniform pages or similar looking web pages are common practice nowadays. This is to save time and effort. What the most designer or developers didn't know is that a visitor would more likely to get bore and close the page rather than navigating all throughout the website. As a viewer, i would often go for the websites that are uncommon or distinct or fresh to my eyes. That would surely get my attention, and in most cases will go into my bookmarks folder. Also use blank spaces or "buffer-zones" between the contents, by doing so, the effect are subtle since the lines created are invisible.
4. Using contrast. It is one of the factors that makes a webpage more elegant and attractive. Mastering it value, size and color would simply gives an edge to the page. But doing it wrong might get your webpage from elegant looking page to an ordinary webpage.
These four topmost secrets in page layout are so crucial that to break them may spell disaster or the end of your precious site.
